My thoughts about the design of this image:

To encourage a love of learning, I decided I wanted a thought provoking quote. My boss sent me this quote a couple weeks ago as some back to school encouragement and I thought it would be perfect for this. To really draw the eye and tie in with the quote, I wanted a pretty green plant that was growing and the sun shining on it. I went to unsplash and found this image. I liked how the plant was front and center, green, the sun is hitting it, and the detail was amazing. I downloaded it for free and then uploaded it to photoshop. Once in photoshop I increased the hues to bring out the pretty red and make the sun pop more on the plant. I also resized the image and cropped it so the plant was more on the right side of the page to bring it closer to the viewer and allow for room on the left hand side for the quote. I then inserted the quote. I wanted to add some emphasis and contrast so I made the quotation marks bigger than they normal are. To add more contrast I put Anthony's name in a smaller font size. I wanted the text to stay uniform since the plant was providing the curves. To do this I aligned the text to the left and fit it between the gap of the two left leaves. I choose a reader friendly text and the color white to make it more visible and easy to read by the viewer.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

I uploaded the image from Unsplash into Photoshop. I used short cuts and the crop tool to crop and place the image where I desired. I then used the brightness and hue and saturation tool to adjust the colors to fit the theme I was going for. I then added the text and choose my color and font. I moved things a round and resized the fonts to get it to the right proportions, alignment, and contrast that I wanted.

My thoughts about the design of this image:

For my PR internship, I work for Cache County School District. I had mentioned to my boss that I am in a Photoshop class and she asked if I could create a banner on Photoshop for all the elementary schools in the county to be posted on their websites. I immediately said yes and came up with this design. My thoughts for this design first went to my audience, elementary school website for students, staff, and parents. I wanted an image that would be bright, colorful, and fun. I looked on Pixabay, a free stock photo site and found this fun photo of colorful coloring pencils. I then wanted a font that looked like it was written in pencil. I used the grid system to make sure my alignment between the different sections were consistent.  I choose to center the text to make the most important information stand out. I also changed the two dates for the parent teacher conferences colors to add more contrast, but I kept the sizes consistent with the size of the title, "Parent Teacher Conferences" to make sure the important information popped out again. I reduced the size of the "No school" information to add more contrast to the design. I choose to make the dates and times bigger to draw the eye in and then the "No school" a smaller size to help the eyes flow through the design and keep them engaged and get all the information the audience needs. This design was then given to all the elementary schools webmasters to upload to their websites.

Check it out! This design is on some of the schools websites:

Cedar Ridge Elementary School

How I created this image in Photoshop:

I first created the size of the canvas on Photoshop with the right pixels and resolution that would fit the websites banner sizes. I then uploaded the image from Pixabay into Photoshop. In order to leave enough white space for the text I cropped and rotated the image to place the image where I desired. I then added the text and choose my colors and font. I messed around with the font, colors, and placement of the text quiet a bit to get it to the right contrast, alignment, and sizes that I needed for the design flow.

Photoshop Skills:

  • Creating a canvas

  • Uploading an image

  • Cropping and rotating an image

  • Using a grid

  • Adding text

  • Changing text color, size, font, and placement

My thoughts about the design of this image:

This semester, for one my Marketing classes, my group and I had to come up with a new product for a specific brand. The brand my group decided on, (I didn't have a say) was Victoria's Secret. Our new product is called The Secret Box. For this project we had to create 4 promotional ads for the new product. For my ad I created this two sided poster. For this exhibit, I'll be truing in the front page. I uploaded the second page I made to this site to help explain what our product idea is. My thoughts for this design first started with wanting to keep my design consistent with the design style of Victoria's Secrets ads. I also wanted to stick with the theme of red roses since I was promoting the valentines day ad. I decided to choose the color scheme of red, black, and white. I then found this image of red roses online through the stock photo company, Unsplash. I wanted the text to stand out and pop from the background. I also choose the cursive font and large font size for Valentines Day to make it pop and stand out from the rest of the image. I used the text color, font, and font size to add and create contrast within the image. I added the border to create a boundary for alignment. I used the box to set my text a strong alignment for the smaller text. I made the bigger text go beyond the border to add more to the alignment with the smaller text. I also used the same font for the small text before the large text and then again after to add a little bit of repetition to the this piece. As for proximity, I wanted to draw attention to "Valentines Day", so I placed that in the middle of the page. I also wanted to create a more romantic feel and wanted the roses to stand out, so I left lots of white/blank space. After I was done, I changed the image below by darkening it to make the color scheme pop even more.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

I first created the size of the canvas on Photoshop with the right pixels and resolution that would fit the poster size that I desired. Then I uploaded the image of roses and added the white border. I wanted the roses to be seen through the border so I changed the opacity. I then added the text and changed the size and fonts. Last, I added the logo for Victoria's Secret at the top of the page to show at to the brand recognition. As I did this I added, named, and organized my layers.

My thoughts about the design of this image:

I wanted my business card to represent me. I love art. I have always loved painting, drawing, ceramics, design, and crafts, but especially painting. I choose the navy watercolor paint splash to show my creative side and love for art. I choose the color navy, since navy is one of my favorite colors. I then wanted the front to be simple and clean. I used a box to create a clean alignment and area for my name, major, and minors. I recently got married, that's why my last name is Fluckiger on my card. I used a different font type for my last name to add more contrast.  For the back, again I wanted to keep a clean, sharp look. I listed my contact information, my online portfolio and my linkedin account. I feel like the colors, fonts, and icons tie it all in and create a clean consistent design that uses contrast, alignment, proximity, and repetition.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

I downloaded the watercolor photo from google and uploaded it to Photoshop. I then typed the content for the front page and messed around with the font type and sizes. I created a box to create a space to keep the alignment of my text centered and to add more of a graphic to the front. Once I got that, I created a back. I uploaded the same watercolor paint splash twice and rotated it and moved them both into place. I then typed my content and played around with the font size, color, and layout. I found the icons on google as well. I uploaded them and moved them around to fit the layout I wanted and needed for the card.

AFTER

My thoughts about the design of this image:

Meet my husband, Brandon. He has been working very diligently on his LinkedIn account and wanted a good sharp, clean photo of him for his profile picture. He just recently got his head shoot back from a career fair on campus. He asked me which photo he should choose for his profile picture and we choose the one on the left. But I knew I could just make a couple touch ups to really make this photo clear and crisper for his account. For this design, I really wanted to make his eyes pop, his skin glow and his teeth whiter.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

I downloaded his photo and then uploaded it to Photoshop. I first started with the skin. I added a surface blur and then touched up the spots on his skin with the healing brush and patch tool. I did this for his face and neck. I then touched up the eyes by making a quick selection using the select and mask tool. I added then sharpened the eyes and added a hue and saturation adjustment layer to add a bit of light blue to the eyes to make them pop. After I finished the eyes, I moved to the teeth. I created a selection of the teeth and then created a group in Photoshop. I first started on making the deeper layer of the teeth whiter to fill in the color through a hue and saturation color adjustment. I then wanted to make the glossy part of the teeth pop to add dimension to the teeth and make them pop. I used multiple layers and adjustment layers as well as selection tools, healing brushes, and brushes to touch up this image.

My thoughts about the design of this image:

This week at work I was handed another opportunity to design a poster for the teachers, admin, and students in Cache County School District. The district has an electronic emergency response program with these five protocols represented by the five icons that will pop up when one of these emergencies is taking place. The district wanted a simple and easy to follow poster that is on or by every teachers classroom door for all students and teachers to reefer to and know what to do in case of these specific emergencies. My thoughts for this design was to draw upon the color of the icon to help draw the eye into certain areas of the poster quickly and to keep a divided between each emergency protocol. I also wanted to keep a strong alignment throughout the poster to keep the poster organized and orderly for faster and easier access to certain information.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

To create this poster in Photoshop, I gathered the information and downloaded the icons from the schools emergency response system. I then create an 8.5 by 11 document in Photoshop and upload the icons. I sized them to be the same sized and than created each block using the eye dropper tool to get the right green and then turned down the opacity of each box to create a lighter shade of each of the five colors. After I created the layout of sections, I created the title and inserted the red and black lines. I then added in the text and again used the eye dropper tool to get the color of each of the titles for the five different protocols and adjust colors where needed. I then moved around somethings to fix the layout and make sure the alignment stayed consistent for each section. I uploaded the districts logo and changed the image size to help better the quality of the image for being printed. I save a Photoshop PDF using the video in one of the lessons on how to save a file for printing purposes.

My thoughts about the design of this image:

This week I wanted to create a flyer to be hung on my wards bulletin boards for this upcoming Relief Society Christmas activity. I wanted to create a warm cozy Christmas feel. I did this through the photo of hot coco and candy canes. I also wanted to make the graphic simple and organized so I created a red box at the bottom and divided it up into three sections to make information clear and easy to access. I choose red for the box and white for the text to add to the Christmas feel and message of the flyer. I also wanted to make the 15 bigger to add more attention to important information and add more contrast to the design. After submitting the design, upon my professors suggestion I changed the text on the left from a middle alignment to a left alignment to repeat and flow with the other text that was left aligned.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

First I found the photo of the hot chocolate and candy canes on Unsplash and downloaded it. I then uploaded the photo into Photoshop and added the red box using the eye dropper tool I found a red that matches the candy canes and then found a darker shade of that red. I then created the Christmas Party text and added a drop shadow to make it pop from the page and grab the viewers attention. I then created a white box to separate the red box from the image a bit to set it apart. From there, I added in the text for the other information and created small white boxes to add more division for the text to create a more organized and help create set clear alignments for the text.

My thoughts about the design of this image:

For this computer banner, I wanted to create a digital display that looked and felt like a college students desk. The backpack, the stickers covered laptop, and notebook seemed just to fit the look I was going for. I then choose the color scheme to match the backpack, stickers on the laptop and the yellow bookmark in the notebook. I really wanted the image to flow together with the text while making the text stand out and grab the viewers attention since it is very important information. I also wanted the image to back up the message, saying to make sure you know when this important deadline is and to make sure to take note of this important date while using less text. I think this design hits the target audience of college students while displaying the important information in a clear and consist way that can be taken in within 20 second of seeing this digital display on a campus monitor.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

First I found the photo of the backpack, laptop, and notebook on Unsplash and downloaded it. I then uploaded the photo into Photoshop and I used the eyedropper tool to get the colors from the stickers and then went to work on the text. I wanted the "tuition and fees due" to really pop so I colored each one a separate color to match the stickers, backpack and notebook, and then started to work on the notepad. There was colored text on the notepad and the text "December 13th 5:00 pm" wasn't popping enough. I got my brush tool and got to work on painting the notebook. I added in a darker line where the middle of the notepad would normally be. I changed the font of the text on the notebook from impact to ink free to add to the effect of the notebook. I then downloaded the USU logo and stuck it on the laptop as if it were one of the many stickers on the laptop.

My thoughts about the design of this image:

While working at my internship at Cache County School District, I had the opportunity to design a banner for the districts and high school websites that spotlighted CCSD making the College Boards Advance Placement District Honor Roll. This achievement is a great accomplishment for the high schools in Cache County. For the design, I wanted to create a colorful bright feel that pops and grabs the viewers attention. I also wanted to capture learning and studying for test. First I went searching through the PIO stock photos folder where I came across this colorful photo. I really liked the bright colored books in the back and that she was a table in the library with a book and looked happy to be there. I wanted to create a modern design look that created a sharp alignment for the text. That's when I choose the polygon shape to create the blue block with an angled edge. I made the shape a bit opaque to bring in more of the image and to be able to use the shelves as guide lines for the text. I than choose the font KohincorTelngu Regular to create more of a long open feel that makes the font pop and make the graphic engaging. I used the letter spacing tool to space the letters out a bit to create the open feel. I then choose to make the AP District text a smaller font size to fit the text around it and in the shelve guidelines to create more contrast and alignment. I then added in the lines to fill in the space. I used a smaller font for the bottom text to create more contrast. I choose to make all the text white to make it readable against the background.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

First I found the photo of the girl at the library in my works stock photos and downloaded it. I then uploaded the photo into Photoshop. I used the eyedropper tool to get the bright blue color for the polygon shape from the girls sweater to make the colors flow and match. Once I created the polygon shape and placed it where I wanted, I used the opacity bar to make the polygon more opaque.  I wanted the "CCSD MADE THE" and "HONOR ROLL" text to really pop so I spaced out the letters and made the the font size bigger and used the shelve in the background image as a guide for my alignment. Then I added in the "AP DISTRICT" text in the middle with the same spacing set as the other text and made the font smaller to fit in between the text. I used the line spacing tool to spread my two lines of big text apart. I then added in the lines to fill in the gaps again using the shelves as a guide. From there I added in the small text at the bottom and aligned the text to the left side of the graphic.

My thoughts about the design of this image:

As Vice President for the USU PRSSA club, I was able to create this digital display to be advertised for our Christmas Destress party on the monitors in the Ag Science building. For this design, I want to create a calm and festive graphic that was warm and inviting. I found the festive photo on Unsplash. What I really liked about this image is the calm grey and white stone background and the white and brown nuts, star, and pine-cones. The color scheme in the image was relaxing, cozy, and inviting just like the event the graphic was advertising for. From there, I wanted the text to be warm and inviting and to use colors from the image. I also wanted a professional font typeface and a script typeface for the Christmas text. I choose these fonts to add to the club as it is a club focused on preparing students for a career in PR and a script cursive font for the calm and smooth Christmas Party. I choose deeper darker colors from the photo to create and add to the feeling of calm and cozy. I then used the lines to add more proximity and contrast in the graphic.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

First I found the photo on Unsplash and downloaded it. I then uploaded the photo into Photoshop and I used the eyedropper tool to get the colors from the stone background and brown pine-cones and nuts. I then start writing out the text and playing around with fonts. It was a bit hard to find the fonts that I felt would add best to the message of the graphic. But I found two that worked. After I had the text fonts and sizes set, I began playing with the colors of the text tot match the color scheme of the image using the eyedropper tool. After I had my text with it's fonts and colors, I realized I need more to separate the information. That's when I added in the lines to add more contrast and bring the viewers eyes to the most important information of the graphic which was the date, time, and place of the event.

ASSIGNMENT 14 //

STYLE

IMAGE WITH STYLE

B14_Tessa_Evans.jpg

My thoughts about the design of this image:

For this assignment, I created the style with the intentions of making the text pop out from the busy background image. The message of this design is that tuition and fees are do. Because this deadline is one not to miss, I really wanted to make sure that the text pops out from the page to grab students attention. I think the text style that I created does make the text pop. However, I don't think the style really fits this image. If I were to really submit this digital display, I would use a different background image, one that didn't have as much going on in the background. One that would have more room and isn't quashed with the other objects in the background image like the one above. I do think the style works well with this design, but I do prefer this exhibit the way it was originally designed.

How I created this image in Photoshop:

To create the style, I first created a new file in Photoshop. I then added the text "TUITION" as normal text. I choose the font, "Impact" because I felt like it would help me achieve the goal of making the text pop better. I then double clicked on the layer and then I added the Bevel and Emboss and played around with those settings to get what I wanted. I then added in in an Inner Shadow. But after playing around with it I realized that that wasn't what I wanted. I then played around with a couple of other options and choose the inner glow and choose the settings I wanted for that and saved the new style. I then when to my previous exhibit and clicked on the text that I wanted to add the style to and then clicked on the new style I created in the style panel.
